Glossary Thread rejection plug gauges

Thread plug gauges are thread gauges and are used for testing internal threads. It is checked whether the flank diameter of the workpiece exceeds the maximum permissible dimension.

The gauge is screwed into the thread by hand for gauging. It must not be possible to screw in the plug gauge more than two turns.

The test results in a classification as “good” or “reject”, so no specific values are measured, for example in mm.

Thread plug gauges wear out increasingly due to mechanical stress. For this reason, resistant materials are preferred for the production of these CNC turned parts or hard surface coatings are used.

Due to wear, thread sprue plug gauges must be checked regularly.
