Glossary of automatic-turned parts

Automatic turned parts are manufactured automatically on lathes – usually CNC lathes. Manufacturers therefore also refer to automatic turned parts as CNC turned parts.

Automatically turned parts can be made from a wide variety of materials or special materials, for example plastic or metals such as steel, aluminum, titanium or copper. In short, from all machinable materials.

In contrast to machining with a manual lathe, automatic turned parts are produced automatically. Various processing steps are programmed in advance and then executed step by step. Even tool changes can be carried out automatically.

Due to the programming effort involved, automatic turned parts are typically produced in large series. They mark the transition between individual production and mass production. In the case of automatic turned parts, the focus is on the production of high-quality precision parts.

For pure mass products, there are now other, more cost-effective manufacturing processes that are more specialized compared to the flexibility of a CNC lathe.

Typical automatic turned parts include special screws and a wide range of special fasteners and complex turned parts that are required in small to large quantities.
