Materials and special materials that we turn and mill
Which material or special material do you want to have turned or milled? Based on decades of experience, we process the materials, special materials and grades listed below as well as practically any other machinable material on CNC machine tools and program-controlled, cam-controlled lathes.
Please ask us if you would like to have a special material turned or milled that is not listed in this overview. We can certainly help with that too.
In order to be able to offer short delivery times, we maintain an extensive stock of raw materials.
Material overview
Non-magnetizable steels
These stainless austenitic steels are characterized by high strength and corrosion resistance, even against salt water, and cannot be magnetized due to the alloy with manganese or molybdenum. Non-magnetizable steel is also known as submarine steel.

Rust and acid-resistant steels
Chromium-nickel steels with high corrosion resistance and strength are referred to as rust and acid-resistant. They are also referred to as stainless steel, other designations are V2A or V4A. The chromium content of the stainless steel (min. 12 %) forms a wafer-thin layer of chromium oxide in combination with oxygen from air, water or other media. This protects the steel underneath. If the layer is damaged, it forms again.

Kuprodur®
Kuprodur® (= brand name of Herm. Sprenger Metallwarenfabrik, there is also the Carodur® brand from Buntmetall Amstetten, both are also known as cupronickel silicon) is an alloy of copper, nickel and silicon that combines high strength and hardness with very good corrosion resistance. Kuprodur also has high electrical conductivity, conducts heat well, is durable and shows little wear.
Kuprodur screws and fasteners made of Kuprodur® are therefore used in mechanical and electrical engineering for connections and electrical contacts that are exposed to the elements or subject to high mechanical stress. In vehicle construction, Kuprodur is used for valve guide bushes and is also suitable as a bearing bush for plain bearings subject to high thermal loads.

Special materials
Special materials are characterized by their suitability for very specific tasks. When it comes to extreme operating temperatures, maximum strength or when the operating conditions are particularly stressful or corrosive, special materials are required. Some special materials also have impressive qualities when it comes to lightweight construction.
The extremely high resistance to certain challenges is typical of many special materials. The processing of these superalloys is correspondingly demanding and requires comprehensive expertise and adapted CNC technology.

Tantalum
Tantalum is a heavy metal that is twice as dense as steel. Tantalum conducts heat and electricity very well and is resistant to heat. Its melting point is just over 3,000° C. Together with its high hardness and corrosion resistance, these properties make tantalum the ideal material for components in the chemical industry. Tantalum components are also used in electronics and automotive engineering.
Titanium
Titanium has a low density and high tensile strength. The material is around 40 % lighter than steel, but achieves similar tensile strengths. Titanium is also highly corrosion-resistant and anti-magnetic.
